Practicing a sport with your dog is fun and offers many benefits.
Dog sports allow your dog positively expend his energies instead of using them in unwanted behaviours. They help strengthen your dog's bond with you and this makes him more obedient. Moreover, a dog that learns and practices a canine sport, using positive training methods - without punishment - can easily become a more balanced and healthy dog both physically and psychologically.
At “Quinta dos Patudos” you can start the training and practice of 3 different canine sports: Obedience, Agility and Flyball.
We regularly organize workshops to introduce these sports and for each there is a Club with regular weekly sessions where people interested in learning, training and practicing with their dogs the modalities gather and work together.
If you want start and/or practice a dog sport (agility, obedience flyball and other sports), in group and with expert advice, you can join in one of ours "Dog Sports Clubs".

The sessions of this club include the realization of exercises with dogs to work skills and behaviors that allow them to practice in this canine sport (jump barriers in running, fetching and retrieve a ball, learn to pull the ball from the flyball box, make the "swimmer turn" in the box ", cruising with other dogs, etc.).

Agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs run off leash with no food or toys as incentives, and the handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles. Consequently, the handler's controls are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal and coordination of the handler. Agility courses include a various obstacles: jumps, tunnels, tire, passerelle, slalom, seesaw, A-frame and long jump.

The Obedience is a dog sport in which obedience is taken very seriously. The dog obeys the handler performing various exercises: heelwork (walk beside the handler without a leash), retrieve objects, positions (stand, sit and down) under march and under control distance of handler, etc.. Obedience training teaches a dog how to act in a co-operative and controlled way. Emphasis should be put on establishing good contact between the dog and the handler and on achieving the dog’s willingness to obey even when at distance from the handler. Handler and dog should display a good overall relationship.
